Before this Veterans Day, active and retired military members will come together for an online charity event – Gamers and Guardians. The stream is aimed to highlight the power of gaming in building community and fostering resilience among veterans. Everyone is welcome to join the event on Twitch on November 10 at 1:00 PM (PDT).
Video games have proven effective in supporting veterans with PTSD and mental health conditions. The 2023 report from the VA noted that 54% of its outpatient mental health services are now delivered virtually, showing the adaptability of platforms like gaming to overcome treatment barriers such as distance and stigma [1]. Regular gaming reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression by up to 50% among veterans, mainly through enhancing social connections and providing a safe distraction from stressors [2].
Before this Veterans Day, Warrior GMR Foundation, August Interactive, and WePlay Studios join forces to create an online charity event dedicated to all military community members worldwide – Gamers and Guardians. The stream is intended to create an inclusive environment that brings veterans together to foster community and resilience among the military.
Streaming live on Twitch, this charity event will feature professional veteran gamers and professional streamers across various game titles, from popular shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone to family-friendly games like Party Animals and Fall Guys. During the 4-hour stream, military veterans in the Twitch community can log in and participate in the action. The event will include a show match featuring U.S. and Ukrainian veteran esports teams head-to-head in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
All donations and subscriptions collected during the Gamers and Guardians stream will be directly transferred to the event's prize pool and The Call of Duty Endowment and Warrior GMR Foundation for the needs of veterans. The stream will be available on Twitch on November 10, 2024, at 1:00 PM (PDT).
“We are proud to be part of this meaningful event. As a company originating from the country that is currently fighting for independence and sovereignty, it is important for WePlay to support the efforts in raising awareness about the problems veterans face after returning from a war zone. We are very proud to help Warrior GMR Foundation and August Interactive and salute those in service,” comments Yura Lazebnikov, CEO and co-founder of WePlay Studios.
