Webby Awards: Honoring the Best on the Internet
3 min read
Winning is always a joy. It is especially satisfying when the victory comes in a fair and very competitive race, like the Webby Awards. The Webby Awards is an international competition celebrating the best Internet use cases since 1997.
Each year, more than 3,000 members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, including business figures and entertainment luminaries, act as a jury to select extraordinary and innovative projects in more than 100 categories. The 28th annual Webby Awards recently announced its results, honoring WePlay Studios, among other impressive companies.
WePlay Studios is a winner
Two WePlay Studios production cases have been shortlisted for the AI, Metaverse & Virtual — Entertainment, Sports & Music category. Other nominees included the prominent and well-known BlackBoxTV, Sphere Studios, and Warner Bros. Discovery. Among intense competition, WePlay Studios won a Webby People’s Voice with its VTuber Awards 2023 case, the first-ever major industry-wide award show dedicated exclusively to virtual creators. The five-hour show brought together dozens of virtual streamers from around the world, connecting them in real time. You can read more about it here.
As the Webby Awards present two distinctions in every category, it was Warner Bros. Discovery that won The Webby Award in this category with its project Carrie’s Closet. Sincere congratulations to Warner Bros. Discovery on this victory, and thanks to other participants for their highly competitive cases.
All-encompassing Webby Awards
Other AI, Metaverse, and Virtual category nominees are also deserving of attention. For example, WePlay Studios’ competitors in the Entertainment, Sports & Music category, Sphere Studios, won some of them. Its project Sphere Art & Promo became The Webby and People’s Voice winner in the AI, Metaverse & Virtual — Arts, Fashion, Retail & Culture 2024 category. The SPHERE F1 LVGP case won the People’s Voice in the AI, Metaverse & Virtual — Best Partnership or Collaboration category.
In general, the AI, Metaverse & Virtual category featured many worthy projects, including cases by NASA, Google, Verizon, and many others. There is a lot that can be said about each one separately. AI and other technologies are used in fashion, entertainment, sports, and other sectors, and their use cases are so unique and extraordinary that they can’t but attract attention. Thus, each year, the awards ceremony in honor of virtual technologies becomes a celebration of new and unique on-demand projects promoting different technology uses.

The attention of world awards such as The Webby Awards to the topics of virtuality, metaverse, and AI demonstrates that this is not just hype but yet another direction in the development of digital technologies that can be used in various places.
